What to include
- Each submission should include a title page, abstract, article text, and references.
- The author names and affiliation should only be included in the title page. This should be in a document that is separate from the article text, thus ensuring a double-blind review process.
- Please delete any identifiable information from all documents. Here is how to do so in the latest version of Word and in past versions of Word.
- Your submission should include separate documents for each: (1) title page (2) text, including the abstract and references (3) tables and figures, if applicable.
- All tables and figures must be created by the author (see Tables/Figure below).
Requirements by submission type
- Research articles: 4,000 word limit; 4 tables + figures max
- Literature reviews: 4,000 word limit; 2 tables + figures max
- Analytic essays: 4,000 word limit; 4 tables + figures max
- Opinion editorials: 1,200 word limit; 1 table or figure
- Issue brief: 1,200 word limit; 2 tables + figures max
- Policy proposal: 2,000 word limit; 2 tables + figures max
- Public health practice: 1,200 word limit; 2 tables + figures max
- Editor's choice: 4,000 word limit; 4 tables + figures max
Layout
- Microsoft Word documents
- Single-spaced
- One-inch margins
- Times New Roman 12-point font
- One space after periods
- Include page numbers
Citations and references
- It is suggested that authors use Zotero to create citations and references. Information about Zotero can be found here.
- Include in-text citations as numbers in brackets, e.g., [1], [2], [3, 4], [5-8].
- References should be in Vancouver format, in the order in which they are referenced in the text.
- Links in the References section should have black font and not be underlined.
- Times New Roman, 12 pt font.
Tables/Figures
- All tables and figures must be created by the author(s).
- Captions should be formatted accordingly: Figure/Table 1: Title. [Text, such as "Created by author using data from _____"].
- Times New Roman, 12 pt font.
- All font should be black.
Tables
- Captions should go above the table.
- Table headers should be bold and centered.
- Text in table cells should be left-justified, and numbers in table cells should be right-justified.
- None of the table cells should be shaded; they should all be white.
- Tables should have 1 pt top and bottom borders for the headers at the top of the tables, but no borders throughout the rest of the table. Please see Pick (2019) as an example for borders.
Figures
- Captions should go below the figure.
- Title the horizontal and vertical axes.
- Colors: If there are three or fewer colors, use dark blue (#0b5394), dark red (#990000), and dark yellow (#bf9000). If there are four or more colors, use different shades of one color (e.g., from darkest blue to lightest blue).
