Letter from the Managing Editor

Abstract

Dear readers,

Happy New Year! I hope the past twelve months have treated you well and that the months to come bring good health and happiness.

The Public Health Review Editorial Board invites you to dive into our December 2022 issue, which offers exciting and innovative insights on several health equity issues. As is the goal of this Journal, each of these papers urge readers to re-think public health research and practice through a lens of achieving true equity. With our December issue’s articles, we take an immersive journey through the 2020 opening of a COVID testing site in Minneapolis; hear first-hand accounts from individuals having to seek and live in affordable housing; learn of recent efforts to improve accessibility of healthcare in rural areas for a particularly vulnerable population; and are called to consider the implications on how we measure and describe the health outcomes of trans and non-binary people.

On top of a wonderful December issue, the 2022 Board has a few other milestones to celebrate! First, we extend a warm welcome to the 2023 Editorial Board: Taiwo Aremu (Executive Editor), Erin Mann (Managing Editor), Kaz Kohls and Tenzin Yangchen (Section Editors), Annie Olson and Diane Sherwin (Copy Editors), Alyssa Mondelli (Production Editor), Mariah Olinger and Amanda Davis (Podcast Editors), Reham Gaid (Evaluation Editor), and Michelle Crandall (Marketing Editor). Additionally, this year we are proud to have published articles from authors representing a total of seven universities and organizations. Our Podcast Editors, Sophie and Haley, recorded and went live with ten new episodes.

PHR would not exist without the hard work and contributions of several key folks. First, our authors and podcast guests. Thank you for sharing your minds with us, it is an honor to partner with you and we appreciate your unique perspectives. Second is the Editorial Board: Shantanu Mallick, Ilyana Hohenkirk, Brooke Offenhauser, Jenna Jensen, Yashwanth Komerelli, Sophie Zielke, Haley Lipo Zovic, Hawking Ren, Abby Wenninger, and Marco Morales. I feel so honored to have worked alongside such a talented group of people. Next, our community of reviewers. Thank you for sharing your talents, time, and effort to support the Journal. And finally, our partners across the university: UMN Libraries, the School of Public Health Student Senate, and our Advisory Board.

Make sure to find and follow us on social media, and check out our podcast, Perspectives! As always, we are accepting applications to become a reviewer. Anyone in the public health community is welcome to apply, which you can do here. And if you wish to share your feedback with the Board, or if you have questions, we have a place for that too! Please don’t hesitate to send us your thoughts using this form. Finally, we accept submissions on a rolling basis, and we’d love the chance to work with you for future issues.

Thank you for a wonderful year. From the entire 2022 Board, farewell, and best wishes!

Sincerely,

Mary Anne Powell
