Abstract
Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS are substances that are commonly used in thousands of products designed to make modern life possible. Unfortunately, these substances can have profound negative impacts on human health. These impacts are not distributed equally, however, and people of color and those in low-income communities experience more frequent and disproportionate exposure to PFAS. Changes in how PFAS are used and regulation of how they are manufactured and disposed of are needed, as is the ultimate phase out of PFAS, in order to ensure health equity and prevent the public from exposure to these dangerous substances.
