Students: All level of degree seeking and non degree seeking international students within the College of Education and Human Development, University of Minnesota.

Alumni: Individuals who are international alumni of the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota, or those who have participated in international research projects.

Faculty and Staff: International faculty or staff members from the College of Education and Human Development.

Co-Author: Co-authors affiliated with the College of Education and Human Development who work with international scholars.

Peer review process

All manuscripts must be original and have not been previously published or are currently under publication consideration elsewhere. All manuscripts submitted to WEJC will go through an initial screening by the WEJC editorial team. The editorial team will then decide whether or not to send a manuscript for a double-blind peer review by two invited reviewers.

It is the responsibility of the author(s) to anonymize the manuscript and any associated materials by removing their names, affiliations, and any other potentially identifying information from the manuscript to ensure its anonymity.

Authorship

All authors whose names appear in the manuscript should meet the following four criteria:

  1. Have made substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work; AND
  2. Have drafted the work or reviewed it critically for important intellectual content; AND
  3. Have approved the final version to be published; AND
  4. Have agreed to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

Language policy

English is the primary language of the WEJC, and the main text of all articles submitted to WEJC must be written in English. We acknowledge that the journal has been the product of scholars who use English as either a foreign or a second language, and we would like to continue dedicating our work and appreciation to all the scholars who contribute to the discourse and are part of the knowledge creation. We are committed to promoting and highlighting research in multiple languages, recognizing the value and significance of knowledge produced by scholars from various backgrounds and regions. We hope this journal serves as a platform where international scholarship is recognized and celebrated, allowing for the wide dissemination of ideas and insights across linguistic and cultural boundaries.

Our mission is to support scholars who wish to share their work with their community. While not mandatory, we encourage authors to submit an abstract in their native language, which will be included in our final publications if their work is accepted.

Ethical considerations

Authors should include information about funding sources, potential conflicts of interest, and informed consent to ensure that the accepted principles of research ethics have been observed.

Conflicts of interest

Authors should include information about sources of funding and potential conflicts of interest, and informed consent is required to ensure that the accepted principles of research ethics have been observed.

Funding

We request that you add a separate heading titled 'Funding.' If applicable, this should follow the Acknowledgements and Declaration of Conflicting Interests sections and come before any Notes and the References. The funding agency should be entirely written out, accompanied by the grant number in square brackets.

  • For example: "This work was supported by the [grant provider] [grant number xxx]."

If there are multiple grant numbers, they should be separated by a comma and a space. When research is funded by multiple agencies, list each agency separated by a semicolon, with 'and' before the last funder.

  • For instance: "This work was supported by the [grant provider #1] [grant numbers xxxx, yyyy]; [grant provider #2] [grant number zzzz]; and [grant provider #3] [grant number aaaa]."

In cases where research does not receive funding from a specific project grant but rather from a block grant or other resources available to a university, college, or research institution, we request that corresponding authors use the following phrase:

  • "This research received no specific grant from any funding agency in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors."

Please ensure this information is placed under the 'Funding' heading immediately following any Acknowledgements and Declaration of Conflicting Interests (if applicable), and before any Notes and References.

Important note: If you are concerned that providing this information may affect your anonymity based on the journal's peer review policy mentioned above, you may choose to withhold this information until you submit your final accepted manuscript.

IBR or Human Subject Research

If your work involves IRB or human subjects research, the author must clearly state whether your study received IRB approval or was exempt from reviews. It is recommended that the information be briefly mentioned in the methodology section, if applicable.

  • If the work was exempted from IRB, we recommend you add the following statements: "This study was determined to be exempt from Institutional Review Board (IRB) review by [Name of IRB or local ethics committee] under [Specific exemption category or policy, e.g., 45 CFR 46.101(c) or institution's policy on exempt research] because [Briefly explain why the exemption applies, e.g., research involving normal educational practices, anonymous surveys, or use of public data]."
  • If the work was approved by an IRB, we hope that you include a statement in the materials and the methods section, or at the end of the article submission. You may use the following statement to indicate the approval: "This study was approved by the [Name of IRB] (Approval ID: [Approval ID])."

Use of AI

Originality

We emphasize the importance of originality in all submitted works. Contributions must represent the author's unique ideas, insights, and analyses. While using AI tools for language support is increasingly common, we maintain that the core work, including the central ideas and arguments, should be human-generated. Authors are encouraged to engage deeply with the subject matter, showcasing their own interpretations and contributions.

Language Support and AI

As this journal aims to promote the work of international scholars and those for whom English is a second or foreign language, some authors may benefit from AI tools for language refinement and clarity. Tools such as grammar checkers and writing assistants can aid in language accuracy. However, it is essential to distinguish between supportive usage and over-reliance on AI-generated content.

Acknowledgment of AI Assistance

In instances where AI tools have been used, we request that authors include a brief acknowledgment in their submission. This acknowledgment should clarify the nature of the support provided by AI. For example, if an author uses an AI tool for grammar checking or language enhancement, they should mention this in their acknowledgment section. However, the submission should remain fundamentally authored by the human researcher, ensuring that the originality of the work is preserved.
