Abstract
This study was an exploration of transfer students with disabilities’ (SWD) perceptions of belongingness after an individualized, one-on-one orientation with the Office of Student Disability Services (SDS) at Central University. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach and purposeful sampling, the researchers conducted semistructured interviews with transfer SWD registered with SDS. The study yielded data from seven participants concerning their experiences with the individualized orientation as related to their perception of belongingness. Data analysis occurred through interpretative phenomenological analysis, with interview transcripts reduced to themes highlighting the individualized orientation essence. The findings indicated the following experiences related to the individualized orientation most influential on participants’ sense of belonging: virtual meeting options, tailored approaches, and knowledgeable and engaging disability services providers.
