The Roaring Muse is currently accepting submissions for the Fall 2025 issue.
Submission Deadline: December 12, 2025
Genre Guidelines:
- Fiction, creative nonfiction, nonfiction: less than 5000 words
- Poetry: 5 poems or fewer (no more than 5 pages)
- Drama: one-act plays - 15 pages
- Visual art: For visual artists only: Please submit a brief artist statement (150-300 words) that notes the title of your work, the methods and materials used, and the year of creation. The statement should also briefly describe the work's central themes, tensions, and/or explorations. Please send in images 300 DPI or greater.
- Multimedia: Musical Recording should have either melody transcriptions or lyrics sheets (both if possible). Please include a brief statement (150-300 words) that notes the title of your work, and any other information you wish to include.
How to submit:
- Email submissions to umdroaringmuse@gmail.com with subject line “Submission, {Your Name}, {Genre of Work}.” Please make sure your name does NOT appear in your submission file (all submissions will be read blind).
- Email contact sheet with your name, email, phone, and affiliated institution (if applicable) as a separate attachment.
Acceptable submission formats:
- Word docs for poetry and prose
- PNGs, JPGs, PDFs for visual art
- WAV, MP3, MP4 for multimedia
