Abstract
Music education, while widely undervalued and underestimated, has the potential to change the lives of young children throughout Philadelphia. Encore: Music Education for Social Change is a 30-minute documentary that aims to highlight not only music education programs in Philadelphia, but also the children affected by these programs to explore the impacts music has had on their lives. Through interviews with program directors, teaching artists, and students of music programs in Philadelphia such as Play on, Philly!, School of Rock, and the Symphony for a Broken Orchestra, this documentary hopes to build support for music and arts education in the city of Philadelphia.
