Service-learning in online business courses: Research and good practices

Abstract

This session will describe the goals, activities, successes and challenges of a service-learning project in an online business capstone course where students conduct a project for a non-profit organization. Participants will gain new ideas for using service-learning in academic coursework in both online and face-to-face courses. In addition, the author will share portions of findings from her dissertation research study on service-learning.

Molly Wickam, Bethel University

Dr. Molly Wickam is an associate professor at Bethel University in both the business and education areas. Her Ph.D. is in the area of service-learning and she wrote and teaches a course where students complete a service-learning project. She loves seeing how service-learning lets students use their academic skills to help their communities.
