DIY Recording Studio

Abstract
Our faculty struggle with the complexities of video content creation for their online and blended courses. It can be costly to provide necessary equipment and software to multiple users and time-intensive to train users on these systems. In response, we have converted a small, unused space on our campus into a self-service multi-purpose recording studio that supports mini lecture captures, interviews, and screencasting. In this presentation, we will present use cases for this space, describe the logistics and equipment needs involved, and describe a range of equipment options appropriate for a variety of budgets.
Following this presentation, participants will:
- Recognize the barriers to faculty created video content for online and blended courses
- Identify the space and equipment needs for a recording studio tailored to the needs of your institution
- Describe how such a studio can be used to meet the needs of faculty.

Daniel Hoisington
Lisa Burke & Glori Hinck are the Director & Instructional Designer for the Office of Instructional Transformation at the Opus College of Business. Dan Hoisington is the Associate Director of Classroom Technologies. Together, they envisioned and helped create a DIY multi-purpose recording studio.
