Journal of Acute Care Occupational Therapy

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

• The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
• Author(s) has seen and approved the manuscript as submitted to the Journal of Acute Care Occupational Therapy.
• Author(s) verifies that he/she/they have participated and substantially contributed to the study concept or design, data analysis or interpretation, and drafting or revision of the manuscript.
• Author(s) claim responsibility for the content, validity, integrity, and objectivity of the entire study.
• The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
• The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Cover Page and Disclosures

The cover page of a manuscript should include the title, all authors and institutions, and keywords, followed by a structured abstract.  

Structured abstracts are also submitted in the Abstract field during submission and should use the following format: 

Abstract: Must include abstract. The abstract should be a concise description of the article.

Acknowledgements: Include only if applicable.

Funding: Include only if applicable.

Use of AI tools: If AI is used to support any aspect of the research process and procedures as well as manuscript dissemination efforts, authors are required to disclose this information. Explicit information on how and where as well as the AI tool name and reason should be stated in the methodology and structured abstract.

Conflicts of Interest: Must declare any conflicts of interest. If there are none to declare, please affirm use the following: We declare no conflicts of interest or financial interests that the authors or members of their immediate families have in any product or service discussed in the manuscript, including grants (pending or received), employment, gifts, stock holdings or options, honoraria, consultancies, expert testimony, patents, and royalties.

Treatment of Human Subjects:  Author(s) have sought and received Institution Review Board (IRB) or related advisor board associated with each authors institution. 

1. Select from: IRB review/approval required and obtained; IRB exemption granted; IRB determined project was non-HSR; none.
2. All IRB number(s) for each participating site need to be stated in the methods section of the manuscript
3. If your project is deemed a quality improvement, the facility needs to provide written approvalfor public dissemination to be published at the journal.

Photo Release Form

If including photo(s) in your manuscript submission, you must submit a signed release from each identifiable subject or subject’s guardian in a photograph before publication. You must also submit a release from the photographer if you do not own the photo.

Please read and complete the photo release form for each photo, if photos are to be included in your submission.

Manuscript Formatting

Formatted in Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA) 7^th edition for both in-text and references.

1. Tables and figures should be submitted with clear graphics
2. Illustrations must be supplied as high-resolution (at least 300 dots per inch) files, saved as .eps or .tif. Digital images supplied only as low-resolution files cannot be used.
3. Photos should be in JPEG format (Mac or PC Version), 300 dots per inch, and submitted in an attachment format. You must submit a photo release form for each identifiable subject or subject’s guardian in a photograph before publication.
4. A 12-point Arial font should be used throughout the document and tables
5. Double-space all text and references.
6. Use 1-inch margins on all four sides of the document(s).

Steps for Submission

Once your manuscript is ready for submission, please complete the following:

1. Create a separate manuscript without tables, figures, or illustrations
2. Create separate tables (if applicable) document
3. Create a separate figures (if applicable) document
4. Create a illustrations (if applicable) document
5. Format photos (if applicable) in a separate JPeg format or within a Microsoft Word document
6. Upload these supplementary documents during the same Submission process after the manuscript file is submitted.

 Other Considerations

• All copyrighted illustrations, images, or figures must have a signed copyright release to be published in this journal.
• Any submitted photo(s) must have photo/media release forms completed and approved for by those in the photo as well as the associated institution for which the photo(s) were taken.

Author Submission Agreement

All author(s) must agree with the Article Submission Agreement upon manuscript submission. The Article Submission Agreement includes author(s) approval, author(s) contribution verification(s), author(s) agreement of submission, acceptance of responsibility for article content, conflict of interest, and financial disclosure. The submission of the manuscript must be exclusive. It should not be published or submitted for publication to any other source until a decision regarding publication in JACOT has been made. It must be the author(s) original work and must not contain any plagiarism or any libelous or unlawful statements or infringe on the rights or privacy of others. By accepting the Article Submission Agreement, all authors agree that the terms are true.

All articles published at JACOT are distributed under the Creative Commons – Attribution NonCommercial No Derivatives  4.0 International (CC BY NC-ND 4.0) . Authors retain all copyrights without restrictions and agree to the CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license for their work as a condition of publication. End users’ rights under the CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license are outlined here. For all other purposes, permission must be obtained from the author. 

Author(s) give permission to JACOT for any copyrighted tables, figures, illustrations, appendices or lengthy quotations that are used in the manuscript. 

The names and email addresses entered in this journal site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.
