Abstract

In the past year we redesigned two introductory college physics courses using only free and open resources. This talk will cover the challenges and opportunities in replacing a traditional textbook with an open textbook. In addition to touring the course and online resources, we will discuss designer, instructor and student experiences.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Discuss the issues and affordances of designing and teaching with open resources
  • Demonstrate how open resources were used in two physics courses
  • Compare the designer, instructor and teacher perspectives on open resources as they appeared in actual courses
