Join us to explore a high-tech and high-touch method for supporting online students to make them feel engaged as part of their campus community. Throughout this session, you will walk through six different methods that helped to increase online students' participation in virtual activities.


Author Biography

Karen LaPlant, Hennepin Technical College

Karen LaPlant has been an Information Technology Faculty member at Hennepin Technical College in MN since 1989. LaPlant has a Masters in Instructional Technology from St. Cloud State University. She has been developing higher education courses for almost 30 years and using Desire2Learn Brightspace in her blended and online classes for the past 16 years. Karen helped to provide faculty development for over 15 years to faculty in the Minnesota State system and nationally through presenting sessions at many national and local conferences and workshops. She has participated in several Professional and Organizational Development (POD) and North American Council for Staff, Program and Organizational Development (Ncspod) Conferences. Karen is a Certified Quality Matters Reviewer and previous Master Reviewer and Coordinator. She also enjoys her role as NOCTI Subject Matter Expert for Business Information Processing and an Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) site evaluator.
