Symptoms of the virus include high fever, muscle and joint pain, and rash. Since dengue is a mosquito-borne virus transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, the spread of the disease can be modeled by both agent-based models and equation-based models. The purpose of this study is to compare an agent-based model built in Netlogo against a more traditional equation-based model. In addition, the emerging preventative measure of injecting mosquitoes with the Wolbachia bacterium is incorporated into each model and further explored. Multiple Wolbachia release strategies are presented.
ER -
